Pakatan: Dissolution of Sabah state assembly returns power to the people

PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan has called on the public to support Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie and his allied parties in the next state election, following the dissolution of the Sabah state assembly.

“We oppose the undemocratic and immoral attempt to overthrow the state government by buying over representatives and encouraging opportunistic defection,” it said in a statement on Thursday (July 30).

Pakatan also expressed disappointment in Perikatan National, which it said was encouraging shifts in allegiance.

It said it supported the dissolution of the Sabah state assembly in order to return the power to the people.

The coup attempt in Sabah, in the midst of the country’s effort to curb the Covid-19 pandemic, was a very irresponsible act, the statement read.

The Opposition coalition called on the people of Sabah to make the right decision in order to uphold principled politics, as well as to reject party defectors.

“We have to restore the mandate of the people, where the people will determine who will govern the state, instead of through money politics,” it said.
