Melaka NGO chairman goes digital to hand out ang pow this year

MELAKA: A Melaka-based crime prevention activist turned the first day of Chinese New Year(CNY) into a joyous occasion by going digital.

Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) Melaka chapter chairman Edison Chan said he shared virtual red packets with his family members and unmarried colleagues through selected banks.

“This was the first time I am experimenting with sending ang pow through digital methods and it worked pretty well,” he said Friday (Feb 12).

Chan said the giving of the red packets symbolises good luck apart from being synonymous with the Lunar New Year.

He said traditional delicacies were also sent to his associates using digital platforms in engaging delivery services.

“Our festive moods are not disrupted despite a low-key celebration this year due to the ongoing movement control order,” he said.

Chan said he only distributed traditional ang pow to elderly folks with the non-governmental organisations.
